Walking Tour Around Kuala Lumpur

After breakfast we got started on another walking tour, but this one was around Kuala Lumpur. The first thing we got to see was the local flea market. I thought this was hilarious, because everything there was clearly stolen. There was so many stolen phones, earphones, wallets, watches and pretty much anything else your heart desires. Our tour guide said the other name for the flea market is the "thief's market" and that we should be extra cautious about holding on to our belongings when we walked through there.

Then we walked by a hospital that only practices traditional Chinese medicine. I thought this place was really cool, because it was just a humble little establishment. Apparently all of the doctors that worked there were volunteers and the only way the hospital made money was by accepting donations.  Then we walked to the Chin Woo sports stadium. It looked pretty interesting from the outside, but when we got inside I was a little disappointed. When they say sports stadium, they really mean badminton stadium. Although, they did have a pretty nice pool with a good view.

To be honest, after this point the tour got pretty boring. I feel like we didn't really get to see all the good parts of KL and the cool places that we did see, we didn't get to go inside. After the sports stadium we got to see some schools. One of them was the Victorian Institute which is the oldest school in KL. Then we walked past a pretty cool mosque, but we just got to walk by it.

At this point we have been walking for around 3 hours. So we got to stop at a mall for a drink break, which was honestly much needed. So we kept walking and we saw the infamous Ficus Religiosa. Ficus Religiosa was the plant that Buddha found enlightenment under and it became an inside joke in our class.

Following that we went to the Old Railway Station. It's the oldest working railway station in Malaysia and it was designed like a mosque. This was one of the only places that we actually went inside, instead of just walking past it.

Then we went to the National Mosque, unfortunately we weren't allowed to go inside of this one either. I thought this would be the coolest thing on the tour, so I was pretty disappointed when we just walked past it. Plus the picture I got wasn't good.

To end the tour we went to the Kuala Lumpur City Gallery. This place was the tour's saving grace. Even though the museum part was still a little boring, upstairs they had a scale model of the whole city of Kuala Lumpur. It didn't stop there, the model also was a mini light show. They had a presentation that showed how great the city of Kuala Lumpur is. So it kind of disappointed me a little bit more because we didn't see any of the stuff that was mentioned in the presentation.

After that we walked back to the Central Market to shop a little bit and eat some more. Then we walked around the city a little bit more and came back to our hotel.

Once we got back to the hotel I took a three hour nap. I woke up, ate some dinner and then came back to the hotel to start studying for our final tomorrow. Even though today was disappointing, I am confident that tomorrow will be better. Hopefully it won't be all concrete again.
